Raiders Knock Off Lions

Stevens Wins It At The Buzzer

The Raiders started up play in the Harding Academy More Than Basketball Tournament in Memphis, TN. The Raiders, like their female counterparts, had a slow start and trailed 6-0 in the first 2 minutes of action. JA would battle back to within two at the end of the first but then trailed by 10 with just under 3 minutes remaining until halftime. Then Reid Felder hit back-to-back threes and Nick Bryan added a layup to cut the lead to 27-25 before the Lions stretched it back to five at halftime.

The second half would start much like the first half as the Lions stretched their lead to twelve with one quarter left to play. And with 6:58 left to play Bobby Parks put the Lions up 51-36, which seemed like an insurmountable lead. But then came the run to end all runs for JA as they reeled off 17 straight in just 4 minutes to take a 53-51 lead. With the score tied 55-55, Reid Felder attempted a fadeaway 15 footer that came up just short, but sophomore Graham Stevens was in the right place at the right time as he put back the miss to give the Raiders the upset win at the buzzer 57-55. The Raiders will now play Battle Ground Academy tomorrow at 7:30pm in their second game of the tournament.

Four Raiders finished in double figures. Two starters Henry Lee - 10, and Wenton Walker - 12, and two amazing reserves, Stevens and Felder as they combined to score 26 for JA, to move to 11-4 with their eighth straight win.
