10th Gatorade Banner

Lowther Receives Banner & Trophy

The Signing Day festivities closed with a recognition that has become a yearly tradition at Jackson Academy as another banner arrived to be hung in The Raider Dome for a fifth consecutive year in the sport of volleyball. And this was not the championship banner which will be hung later when it arrives. This was for something this past season a Lady Raider did that no one else in the Magnolia state has done before. Kaylee Lowther became the first Libero to win the coveted Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year for the state of Mississippi since the award began back in 1996. Jackson Academy also became the first school in the nation to win a Gatorade trophy for five straight years in volleyball. Overall this was the sixth time a Lady Raider has won the award in school history (Conley Chinn in 2015-2016, Parker Bracken in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, Lakin Laurendine in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023). This is the tenth time in the last 11 years a Jackson Academy athlete has received a Gatorade Mississippi Player of The Year distinction. No school in Mississippi has had more in that time period. In addition to the six volleyball awards, JA has won two in cross country (Curt Knight in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons) and one each in baseball (Dakota Jordan 2021-2022) and boys soccer (Emery Thigpen in 2020-2021).
