Raiders Fall to Chiefs
Back and Forth Affair in Pelahatchie
The Raiders stepped out of conference play and into an initial meeting with Pelahatchie High School. The two teams were meeting for the first time in school history at Chiefs Field in Pelahatchie.
The Raiders gave up two quick touchdowns to the Chiefs and trailed 14-0. The first score came on the first play of the game as Ahmad Johnson went 80 yards in just thirteen seconds to open up the scoring. The second score came on their next possession as Quay Ragsdale scampered 67 yards to put the Chiefs up two touchdowns.
The Raiders then rattled off 24 unanswered points as Marcus Harris ran in from 13 yards out for his third straight game with a touchdown. Tae Stewart helped tie the game moments later as he scooped up a fumble for his third defensive score in the last two games. JA added a Ja'Ree Myers TD and a Land Gebhart 23 yard field goal as the Raiders held a 27-20 halftime lead.
JA opened up the second half with the ball and marched it down the field in 12 plays running over 6 minutes off the clock but eventually stalled out and settled for another field goal pushing the lead to ten. Ahmad Johnson wasted no time, as on the first play from scrimmage after a Gebhart touchback, he scored on another 80-yard run. The Chiefs got another long run from Johnson as he rambled 93 yards for his fourth score of the night putting Pelahatchie up 34-30 in the closing moments of the third quarter.
The Raiders responded with a Marcus Harris 48 yard run the set up a TD pass from Andrew Holmes to Wesley Bowman giving the lead back to JA, 37-34. The Chiefs scored on their next two drives and secured a 49-37 win in a very entertaining ballgame for both sides.JA will head back to the Brickyard next Friday night as they host Jackson Prep with the kickoff at 7pm.
