Homecoming Victory

Raiders Top Patriots, Queen Crowned

The Raiders welcomed East Rankin Academy to The Brickyard for Homecoming 2019. JA has not lost in the only four meetings in school history which came in 1980, 1981 and then in 2015 and 2016. And tonight would be no different.

After holding the Patriots to a punt on the first series of the game, the Raiders jumped on the board with a quick 4 play drive that covered 72 yards, including a 59 yard TD run by Marcus Harris. The Raiders scored on five of their six drives of the first half. Harris scored from 20 yards and 5 yards to put the Raiders up by three scores and he rested the remainder of the ballgame finishing with 120 yards on 9 carries. Dillon Wade scored for the second time this season in the second quarter and then to close out the first half Andrew Holmes connected with Drew Antici from 44 yards to give the Raiders an insurmountable 34-0 lead at the break.

At halftime, the Homecoming court was presented and then JA alum Cameron Albriton of Albriton?s Jewelers presented the crown and a pair of earrings to Kennedy Nations, as she was elected Homecoming Queen 2019.

With a running clock in the third quarter the Raiders took the ball down the field on 6 plays and covered 57 yards to lead 40-0, on the first touchdown of the season for Cameron McMichael from 24 yards out. The Patriots got on the board next as Rouse Boyce hooked up with Porter Derden on a 75 yard TD strike. East Rankin ended the game with a special teams score as Mason Morgan scooped up a blocked punt at the JA 3 yard line and fell into the end zone for the last play of the game.

JA will head to Hattiesburg next Friday night as they take on Presbyterian Christian School, with the kickoff at 7pm.
