JV Comeback Falls Short / Varsity Streak Ends
The Lady Raiders finished off their final home games of the calendar year by hosting Leake Academy in JV and Varsity action Saturday at The Raider Dome. The JV Lady Raiders scored the first points of the game and that was their only lead of the game as Leake raced out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter. JA won the middle two quarters 18-17 and were able to get the lead down to 9 with just under 3 minutes left in the game. Leake held off the Lady Raider rally and halted their winning streak at seven as Leake won 42-31 and JA fell to 7-1 on the season. Next up is a two game road trip to end the calendar year at Cathedral next Tuesday and at Pillow next Thursday. Both game times are at 4:00pm.
The Varsity Lady Raiders took on the Rebelettes in a matchup of unbeaten teams at The Raider Dome. JA got off to a good start as they led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. Then Leake went on an impressive 13-2 run to take a brief lead before JA tied it up heading into the locker rooms at halftime. The two teams battled back and forth with JA having their final lead at 26-25 with 3 minutes left in the third. Then Leake went on 14-2 run to put the game out of reach as the Lady Raiders lost their first game of the year 47-38 while Leake improved to 12-0 on the season. Next up for the Lady Raiders will be the start of a seven-game road trip taking them to Cathedral at 6:30pm on Tuesday and Pillow at 6:30pm on Thursday. They will also be in Memphis December 19-21 and at Northeast Jones December 27-28.
