Alfa West Jones Christmas Classic


The Varsity Lady Raiders wrapped up play in the annual Alfa West Jones Christmas Classic in Laurel, MS on the campus of West Jones High School, as they took on the Puckett Lady Wolves. It marked one of the best teams the Lady Raiders have matched up against this season with a combined mark of 40-4 over the last season and a half.

The two teams played one of the more entertaining quarters to start the game as they combined for 40 points, seven lead changes and finished in a 20-20 tie. In the second quarter the Lady Wolves pulled in front with a 17-9 quarter and led 37-29 at the halftime break.

The second half saw the Lady Wolves lead by as many as 11 before the Lady Raiders got two big three pointers from Natalie Thompson in the span of three seconds to cut the lead to four, and then another quick bucket by Thompson to start the fourth cut the lead to two. Puckett scored the next eight points to push the lead back to double digits and eventually held off the Lady Raiders with a 63-55 victory, advancing their record to 14-1. JA had their record finish at 1-1 in the tournament and their overall record fall to 14-5. The Lady Raiders will have the next few days off before getting back to action next Saturday back at The Raider Dome as they host East Rankin Academy.
