Raiders Split in McComb

Parklane Snatches Win From JA

The Raiders wrapped up their week of conference play on the road in McComb as they battled Parklane Academy. It all began with the JV Boys trying to win their fifth straight game and stay unbeaten in conference play. The two teams played an even first quarter at 13-13 before the Raiders turned up the defensive pressure and held the Pioneers scoreless in the second quarter as they built a 23-13 halftime advantage. After the halftime break the Pioneers made a few runs but never got closer than eight as JA set the final margin at ten with a 43-33 victory and moved their record to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Raiders were led in scoring by Merritt Nations (17 points) and Mason Shoemaker (8 points)

The Varsity Raiders struggled for the second straight game falling behind 7-0 before finally getting on the board with a Nick Bryan free throw. The Raiders made a 12-8 run to cut the Pioneer lead to two, but found themselves down eight at the break.

JA began the second half with six straight on back-to-back threes by Henry Lee and Will Travelstead and cut the lead to two once again before Parklane went on another run to push the lead back to eight after 24 minutes of play. Lee continued his scoring in the fourth as he dropped in two more three pointers and JA got four straight free throws from Bryan and Graham Stevens as they cut the deficit to 50-47 with just over a minute to play. JA got a clean look from Henry Lee with just over 30 seconds remaining from the top of the key but it rimmed out as the Pioneers stretched the lead to four at the line and held on for a 51-47 victory. The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Raiders as they lost their first conference game of the season falling to 15-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play. JA finishes off the week by stepping out of conference to host Brookhaven Academy on Saturday with the JV at 5:15pm and Varsity at 7:00pm.
