Conference Sreak Snapped
The Lady Raiders got their biggest week of the year started with a matchup against a pair of 20 win teams as they hosted Madison Ridgeland Academy at The Raider Dome on Tuesday night. The JV Lady Raiders led 11-10 with just over two minutes to go in the first quarter before MRA closed the quarter on a 13-0 run to lead 23-11. JA finally stopped the 3 minute scoreless streak with a free throw by Emily Buchanan, but MRA led 29-14 at halftime. The Lady Raiders managed to trim the lead to 9 at the start of the fourth quarter before closing it to 43-40 with thirteen seconds left in the game. MRA buried two free throws to seal the win, 45-40 and in the process had their six game win streak snapped as they fell to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The Varsity game was a first half filled with big runs as the Lady Raiders jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before the Lady Patriots closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to lead by two. The Lady Raiders began the second quarter on 8-0 run to claim a 16-10 lead before MRA responded with another 10-2 run. JA scored the final three points of the half to lead 21-20 at the break. The second half began with MRA going on the biggest run of the game, 15-5, as they increased their lead to nine. The Lady Raiders were unable to stop Rivers Futral as she racked up sixteen fourth quarter points and finished with a game high 34 points helping knock off the Lady Raiders 56-41. The loss snapped the Lady Raiders conference win streak which was at 44 regular season conference wins and 51 straight wins against 5A competition. The Lady Raiders fell to 20-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play. JA will host Prep on Friday to close out the week.
