Raiders Split in Hattiesburg
The Raiders wrapped up a two-game week by traveling to The Rees Gymnasium in Hattiesburg as they took on Presbyterian Christian School on Friday night. The JV Raiders were looking to sweep the regular season series against the Bobcats after a 56-34 victory at The Raider Dome. The Bobcats came to play as they closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 11-4 after the first seven minutes. JA was able to close the deficit to one with a 9-3 second quarter. The Bobcats increased the lead to 27-24 with 5:30 left in the game before JA went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes before closing out the game with a 34-29 victory helping JA improve to 16-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Varsity Raiders were in for a battle with a team they were tied with in conference play at 4-2 so a victory would give them a leg up for one of the top two spots in 5A play. The first quarter featured a 7-0 and 5-0 run by JA, and a 9-0 run by PCS which ended with the Raiders leading 15-13. The Bobcats outscored the Raiders by eleven as they led 32-23 at halftime. JA was able to close the gap to three at the end of three quarters but PCS kept at least a five point lead the rest of the beating the Raiders 52-43 and dropping their overall record to 18-10 and 4-3 in conference play. Henry Lee led JA with 12 points, while Will Travelstead was right behind with 9 points. JA will return home for Senior Night on Tuesday as they host Copiah Academy. JV starts at 5:15pm with the Varsity following at 8:00pm
