Lady Raiders Take Down Lady Pats


The Lady Raiders traveled to Madison for their second and final meeting of the regular season with the Lady Patriots of MRA. The JV Lady Raiders were playing in their final game of the regular season before the JV Tournament next week at JA. The second meeting between the Lady Raiders and Lady Patriots would decide the 1 and 2 seeds for next week. JA controlled the first quarter leading 8-2, but in the second quarter MRA fought back to tie the game at 12-12. The Lady Raiders were able to get a four point lead going into the final quarter, but MRA would rally and force overtime in Madison. JA scored the first six points of the overtime session before MRA scored a three with less than :30 left. The Lady Raiders would ice the game from the free throw line and finish the regular season at 18-3 and 9-1 as well as secure the #1 seed in the tournament next week.

In Varsity action, the Lady Raiders were trying to avenge their earlier loss to the Lady Patriots at The Raider Dome and early on the Lady Patriots appeared to be heading for a season sweep of the Lady Raiders as they led by ten at halftime. But the halftime message was heard by JA as they came out and scored the first fourteen points of the third quarter and turned a ten point deficit into a four point lead. MRA managed to tie the game heading into the decisive fourth and final quarter. Rivers Futral scored the first points of the fourth quarter to give MRA back the last lead they would have in the game as the Lady Raiders went on another impressive 13-0 run over the next six minutes to secure a 40-33 victory and clinch one of the top two spots in the State Tournament in McComb in two weeks. Coming off a career night on senior night, Yasmin Chambers picked up where she left off with a team high 14 points while Reeves Stratton added 9 to help lead the Lady Raiders. JA will finish the regular season next week at Prep on Tuesday and at MHEA in Memphis on Thursday.

Yasmin Chambers scored 14 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 FT), had 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist in 21 minutes off the bench.
NaeNae Ellis registered 7 points and 7 rebounds also off the bench, 4 steals and 1 block in 22 minutes.
