5A JH Girls Tournament

Lady Raiders Headed To Championship

The JV Lady Raiders finally got their first game in the tournament they are hosting this week under their belts as they beat their cross-town rival in Jackson Prep for the third time this season. The Lady Raiders scored the first five points of the game and pushed the lead to eight at the end of the first quarter. JA then stretched the lead to thirteen with a 7-0 run early in the second quarter. But the Lady Patriots came charging back and managed to tie the game with a 13-0 run of their own right before the half. Emily Buchanan hit a jumper late to give JA back the lead at the half, 23-21. The third quarter saw the two teams exchange baskets as they played an even quarter as the Lady Raiders carried their two point lead into the fourth. The Lady Raiders pushed the lead back out to nine and put the game away with a 9-2 run as they moved on with a 37-30 victory over Jackson Prep. The Lady Raiders were paced by Buchanan and Addi Roberts who combined to score 31 of the 37 points. The other six belonged to Ava Ladner as JA improved to 19-3 overall. JA will now face MRA on Saturday at 1:00pm for the MAIS 5A Junior High State Championship.

The Varsity Lady Raiders traveled to Memphis for their final game of the regular season as they fell 51-43 to drop their record to 26-7. They will enter the postseason as the #2 seed and will play next Friday afternoon in the MAIS 5A State Tournament in McComb.
