Baseball Finally Starts

Conn & Gordon Combine For No-Hitter

After a week filled with rainouts, schedule changes and location changes the JA Raiders finally got the 2020 season started as Trustmark Park opened their doors for the season opener against the Washington School Generals. The JV Raiders took the field first and fell in their first game of the season 5-1 to the Generals.

The Varsity Raiders took the field next and Jackson Conn showed early and often why he is a MSU Baseball commit. He took down the side in order in the first. The Raiders scored four in the bottom of the first inning and then Conn allowed his first baserunner with a hit batter to start the top of the second. He followed that by striking out the side, while his offense scored six more in the bottom of the second to give JA a 10-0 lead. Conn faced the minimum in the third, despite hitting another batter, thanks to a double play turned by his defense. Conn allowed two more baserunners in the fourth inning after two strikeouts to start the frame but induced a ground out to end the inning. With JA leading 10-0 in the top of the fifth, just three outs were needed to secure the no-hitter. Conn teamed up with Gus Gordon to preserve the no hitter and victory for JA as they improved to 1-0 to start the season.
