Raiders Drop 2nd Straight

Second Half Rally by Pats

Jackson Academy returned to The Brickyard as they hosted their first conference opponent for the season in Madison-Ridgeland Academy. The first quarter saw the Raiders give MRA their only scoring chance as a bobbled punt attempt gave the Patriots an extremely short field which they converted into the game?s first TD. The Raiders responded with a career-long 42-yard field goal by Scott Swalley, which he followed with a perfectly executed onside kick that was recovered by Simms Baker to give JA a short field. After seven plays, Jackson Conn capped off the drive with a 3-yard plunge giving the Raiders their only lead of the night 10-6.

After a scoreless second quarter, the Raiders got the ball to start the second half and because of a block in the back penalty, JA had a 56-yard reception negated and eventually the drive stalled out. MRA took the ensuing possession down the field and took the lead that they would not relinquish, 13-10. They would add a fourth quarter score as well to set the final margin of 20-10.

Three Raiders really shined on defense as Ethan Archie led the team with 14 tackles (7 solo), Donovan Veasley was right behind him with 14 tackles (7 solo), and Max Walenta was all over the field registering 10 tackles (6 solo), 2 sacks, 4 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

JA will stay at The Brickyard next Friday night as they host the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans at 7pm. Pregame on The Raider Network will begin at 6:45pm
