Lady Raiders Repeat

Back-To-Back State Champs

The Lady Raiders and Lady Hawks matched up in the MAIS Overall Volleyball Championship Game for the third straight year. It was also a duel of Division 1 Players as Julia Dyess (Ole Miss Indoor) of Hartfield faced off against Parker Bracken (LSU Beach) and the Lady Raiders. The Lady Raiders have played in the State Championship Game every year since 2012 and have won five state titles (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019) leading up to Saturday's Title Tilt.

In the first set JA led early as they were within two points of closing out the first set (23-18) but Hartfield stormed back and won the first set 26-24. The second set was close until midway through as JA led 13-11 and finished the set on a 12-6 run to even up the match at a set apiece. The third set was back and forth as they played to a 21-21 tie before Pryor Mehrle and JA closed out the set on a 4-0 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match. In the final set the Lady Hawks and Lady Raiders again went back and forth and were tied at 21-21 and 23-23 before Parker Bracken and Natalie DeRusso made their final mark on JA Lady Raider Volleyball with a sweet assist and kill to put JA within one point of the match. The final point went to Mehrle as she capitalized on a Hartfield over pass and dumped it straight down to the floor for the final point as JA secured their second straight title.

So the Lady Raiders have now won six of the last seven Volleyball State Championships and proved this season that they were able to fight for their legacy. Congrats Lady Raiders!!!
