Senior Night Victory

Harris Reaches 1,000yds Again

Jackson Academy wrapped up the regular season at The Brickyard as they celebrated Senior Night 2020 by hosting Parklane Academy in the thirtieth meeting between the two schools. The Raiders were trying to win their third straight against the Pioneers and nineteenth overall in the series history.

The Raiders won the coin toss once again and deferred their decision to the second half. Coach Lance Pogue sent his defense out on the field and they answered the call by holding the Pioneers to a three-and-out. JA marched the ball methodically down the field, consuming 74 yards in eight plays in just under three minutes. The drive was capped off by a Marcus Harris 11 yard touchdown run. JA didn?t score again until they found themselves with a short field, because of a Parklane miscue on special teams. It was Harris again for JA from 3 yards out to give JA a 14-0 lead. Scott Swalley capped the first half scoring with a 23 yard Field Goal. JA held Parklane to just 19 total yards and only one first down.

Prior to the game, the Senior Football players and Band Members were recognized along with a performance from the band. At halftime, the Rowdies, Accents and Cheerleaders were all recognized as the award-winning Accents and Cheerleaders also performed for the crowd.

The second half got off to an electric start as Lardarius Webb, Jr. took the opening kickoff 81 yards for the first Kickoff return for a touchdown on the season for the Raider Special Teams unit. The Pioneers were able to get a short field thanks to a poor punt by the JA special teams unit and cash in with their first score of the night. On the next JA possession, Harris accomplished a few big achievements with his final run of the night, a 66-yard touchdown run. Marcus had his first 200 yard game of the season (4th career) as he also cracked 1,000 yards for the second straight season. It was the 14th time he has rushed for 100 yards or more in a game. It was also the 5th time he has rushed for 3 TDs in a game. Dillan Wade had his career best game on senior night as he ran for 58 yards on seven carries and had his third touchdown of the season. In the fourth quarter, Deion Smith was able to pick up the second kickoff return for a touchdown for the Raider Special Teams unit as he ran one in from 69 yards out. With their fourth straight win, JA improved their record to 8-3 and finished with a 3-2 conference mark and a #3 seeding in the postseason.

Defensive leaders for the game for JA were Caleb Hernandez as he led the team with 8 tackles (6 solo). Max Walenta tallied 6 tackles (5 Solo), and 2 TFL. Adams Kennedy also finished with 6 tackles (4 solo), 1 Sack, 1 Tackle for Loss, and a Fumble Recovery. Parker Ryan collected 6 tackles (3 solo), and had 2 TFL.
