Raider Revenge
JA Halts Leake's 14-game Win Streak
Jackson Academy traveled to Madden for the second straight season looking to avenge the loss from last year as they took on Leake Academy in the seventh meeting between the two schools. The Raiders were looking to star the season 2-0 for the first time since 2018 when they won their first five games and halt the Leake Academy 14 game win streak.
The skies opened up prior to kickoff to help dampen the field and raise the mugginess factor as the Raiders won the coin toss for the second straight game and deferred their decision to the second half. Both teams forced turnovers defensively in the first two possessions. After two punts were exchanged the Rebels were left with a short field and capitalized with a 31 yard drive on a Rhett Atkinson 2 yard TD run. The Raiders tied things up on the very next drive as Tate Collins connected with Dakota Jordan from 87 yards away as Jordan scored his first TD as a Raider. In the second quarter Leake managed the only points as Whitt Welch capped off an eight play drive with a 40 yard run giving Leake a 13-7 halftime advantage.
After spending much of the first half having negative first down plays the Raiders were able to use quick tempo on a 6 play, 80 yard drive which was capped off by the second touchdown from Dakota Jordan. The fourth quarter began with Leake attempting a 45 yard field goal to take the lead back from the Raiders but it sailed wide left. With 5:41 left in the game, the Raiders pulled off a fake punt from Porter Harrell to keep the drive alive which was followed by a fumble recovery by Marcus Harris. Two plays later Harris ran for his first touchdown to put the Raiders up 20-13. The Raider defense forced a turnover on downs at the Leake 17 and just one play later Harris ran in his second score of the night to give JA a 27-13 advantage. The night ended with an interception in the end zone by Trey Adams for the second pick by the JA defense.
JA moved their record to 2-0 while the Rebels fell to 1-1.
Offensive leaders for the game for JA were Dakota Jordan as he ran the ball 3 times for 36 yards and a TD while also hauling in 3 passes for 100 yards and another TD.
