Raiders Fall to Saints
#1 Team Snaps Brickyard Streak
The Raiders returned home to The Brickyard as they hosted the #1 team in the state in Greenville Christian School and renewed a series that ran for six years from 1986 to 1991. The Raiders won all six previous meetings. This version of the Saints is a much different team than the earlier versions with wins over MRA, Prep and even defending 6A champion Oak Grove. They jumped out to an early lead as DJ Smith found Chris Bell from 27 yards out to give them an early 8-0 advantage. On their next possession on fourth, DJ Smith somehow found Marlon Palmer for an 11 yard score. Tate Collins tried to keep the Raiders in the game with his feet as JA settled for a field goal on their second drive to cut the lead to 14-3. The Saints would score again on another impressive physical run from Marlon Palmer as he ran it in from 5 yards out. After another score by Greenville Christian, JA would fumble it back to the Saints, but the Raider defense stood tall as Denym Mitchell picked off DJ Smith. The Saints would get a safety and give up another score right before halftime making it 30-3 at the half. The JA defense pitched a second half shutout as the only score came on a deflected pass from Collins to Dakota Jordan. The Saints moved to 7-1 as JA fell to 4-2 and had their 7 game home win streak snapped. Next up for JA is Hartfield Academy in Flowood as they will play in conference action for their final four games of the season.
Offensive Leaders: Tate Collins went 10-for-16 for 135 yards and 1 TD. Dakota Jordan secured 5 catches for 88 yards and a TD. Merritt Nations had 3 catches for 26 yards and Thomas Antici snagged 2 passes for 21 yards.
Defensive Leaders: Ethan Archie tied for the team lead with 11 tackles (5 solo), a tackle for loss and a half sack. Kris Robinson also had 11 tackles (8 Solo) and a TFL. Banks Whittington had 9 tackles (3 solo) a TFL and a sack. Trey Adams finished with 8 tackles (3 solo) and a pass break up.
JA heads to Flowood as they step back into conference play against Hartfield Academy with a 7pm kickoff. Pregame on The Raider Network will begin at 6:40pm
