Lady Raiders Top Lady Hawks for 7th Title
The Rivalry Week continued on Wednesday night as Jackson Academy and Jackson Prep met up for the MAIS D1 Volleyball Semifinals and the Lady Raiders were up for the task but after a dominant first set, the Lady Patriots made them work for the second set victory as JA rallied from a 24-21 deficit to win the second set 28-26. JA closed out the third to move on to the Championship Match on Thursday against Hartfield Academy
The Lady Raiders and Lady Hawks were meeting for the fourth straight season in the Championship Game as JA was looking for their third straight State Title. JA was playing in the Title Game for the ninth straight year. The first set saw four ties, but JA never trailed as the Lady Raiders closed out the first set on a 8-5 run. The second set was much more competitive as the two teams were tied ten different times and the Lady Hawks even had a lead four times. Again tied at 17-17, JA used a 8-2 run to claim set two. The final set and Hartfield held a 8-7 lead until JA went on a 14-5 run to pull away and win the State Championship. Coach Melissa Denson won her 147th game at the helm of the Lady Raiders and their third straight State Title. JA finished with the second most wins in school history and a 38-8 record, while never dropping a set against MAIS competition. They captured the seventh State Title in school history.
