Lady Raiders Top Lady Cougars 35-33


The Lady Raiders headed back on the road on Saturday as they made the short trip to Central Hinds Academy to take on the Lady Cougars. Of the four games played on Saturday this was definitely the most competitive as Central Hinds led the entire game until it mattered most. The Lady Raiders trailed 7-3 early in the first before a quick four points by Emily Buchanan and Gracelyn Carmichael to tie the game 7-7. The Lady Cougars responded with four straight to end the first and two more to start the second to stretch their lead to six which was the largest lead of the game. Cha?Myrean Ellis and Buchanan tied it back up at the 2:50 mark and then down three Lila Eubank drained a three to tie the game at 18-18. Hankins made a pair of free throws to give the Lady Cougars a two point lead at the half. The third quarter was full of runs by both teams as Central Hinds carried a two point lead into the final frame. The Lady Cougars made their final points of the game at the 7:52 mark to stretch the lead to four and then the Lady Raider defense put the clamps on. Eubank hit another three to cut the gap to one and then Ellis finished off the comeback with layup and free throw as JA beat Central Hinds 35-33 and improved to 2-1.
