Raiders Win Game #500

Raiders Run Over The Rebels

The Raiders traveled to Madden on Friday night for Week 2 of the season at Thaggard Field. This was the ninth meeting between the Raiders and Rebels in school history and it was the 500th game in JA Football history. Then Raiders hold the all-time edge over Leake at 7-1.

The game could not have started better for the Raiders as Hiser Funderburg set the tone with a forced fumble that was recovered by Dereon Albert at the Leake 24 yard line. Dre Terry found the end zone on the next play but it was called back for holding. Then DJ Watkins raced in from 13 yards out to start the scoring. JA forced a three and out on Leake and got the ball back near midfield. Five plays later Pruet James found Brister Robertson for his first catch of the season which went for six. The Rebels got a short field of their own thanks to a long kickoff return which had a penalty attached to it, setting them up at the Raider 33 yard line. The Raiders denied them the end zone and forced the Rebels to settle for a 22 yard Field Goal. JA scored on their next possession as Mathison got the ball to Dre in space and he found the end zone from 22 yards away giving JA a 21-3 lead. Dre also showed out on special teams blocking a punt on the next Leake possession, which gave JA a short field at the Leake 28. The Raiders capitalized with a Jacob Scarbrough 38 yard Field Goal. After a safety JA got another short field and Omarean Ellis scored the first of two touchdowns from 33 yards out. His next carry was the other score that covered 50 yards and pushed the lead to 40-3 for JA at halftime.

The second half was an opportunity for some other Raiders to get some time as El-Amin Bashir carried the ball 15 times for 72 yards in the second half. Defensively the Raiders held Leake to a total of 8 rushing yards on the night and only 76 overall. JA improved to 2-0 on the season as the Leake Academy Rebels fell to 0-1.

Offensive Leaders: Carter Mathison was 8-for-10 for 115 yards and a TD. Omarean Ellis had his first 100 yd game with 5 carries for 109 yards and 2 TDs. El-Amin Bashir finished with 72 yards on 15 carries DJ Watkins had 3 carries for 31 yards. Kiandre Terry had 6 receptions for 111 yards and 1 TD (second 100yd game of his career)
