First Loss for Raiders

Comeback Comes up Short

The Raiders finished up a two game home stand on Friday night at The Brickyard as they renewed their rivalry with Jackson Prep for the 58th time. The packed atmosphere was electric.

The Raiders had some early chances but were unable to take advantage of them. The entire first half was a defensive struggle, field position battle by both teams and penalties were the other storyline. Prep capitalized off of a short field in the first quarter to pick up three early points. Foster Meacham stepped in front of a Prep pass to prevent any more points right before halftime as the Raiders trailed by three.

The second half began with Prep marching the ball down the field on their opening possession and scoring to take a 10-0 lead. Midway through the fourth the Patriots added another long TD strike to push the lead to what seemed like by many as an insurmountable lead, 17-0. But the Raiders weren’t done as they responded with their first scoring drive of 80 yards to reduce the deficit to 17-7. After securing the onside kick, the Raiders had to settle for a Jacob Scarbrough 29 yard field goal to make it a one score game. The Raiders then held Prep to a quick three-and-out to get the ball back at midfield with 1:00 to play. Unfortunately, the Raiders were unable to convert their chance and fell 17-10 and had their record drop to 4-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

Offensive Leaders: DJ Watkins finished with 13 carries for 55 yards.Carter Mathison was 14-for-37 for 171 yards. Ford Childress had 3 catches for 54 yards. Bo Barbour grabbed 3 passes for 44 yards. Brister Robertson snagged 3 passes for 28 yards.John Thomas had one catch for 38 yards.
