Raiders vs Cougars
JA Takes 3 of 4 from Central Hinds
Jackson Academy hosted Central Hinds Academy on Thursday night at The Raider Dome and Jan Sojourner Court. This was a rematch of the four games played nine days ago in Raymond which saw JA take three of the four games from the Cougars and Lady Cougars. The JV Lady Raiders were without one of their starters due to a soccer commitment. The Lady Cougars exacted some revenge on the short-handed Lady Raiders and took down JA by a 43-17 final. The loss dropped JA to 6-3 on the season. In the JV Boys action it was also a dominant performance but by the Raiders as they hit on all phases beating the Cougars 53-18 and improving to 7-2 on the young season. Both JV games have been cancelled on Saturday at Heritage so next up for JA is the beginning of conference play as they travel to St. Joseph in Madison on Monday.
The Varsity Lady Raiders and Lady Cougars played the game of the night. JA led by as many as 14 in the second quarter before the Cougars marched back into the game with a run of eight to close out the first half. Central Hinds was then able to cut the lead down to two at the end of the third. Then with time winding down in regulation in a tie game the Lady Raiders were unable to get a clean look at the basket which forced overtime. This was the first overtime game of the season for JA and it was one of the highest scoring for sure as a total of 25 points were scored in just 4 minutes. The Lady Raiders got four clutch free-throws from senior Eliza Hawkins down the stretch to preserve the victory as JA won 65-64 and improved to 5-7 on the year.
In Varsity Boys action the Raiders scored the first six points of the game en route to a 24-6 first quarter lead. They left nothing in doubt with a 25-7 second quarter as they led 49-13 at halftime and eventually secured a 69-33 victory to move to 11-0 on the season.
