JA vs Prep
Lady Raiders Thrill Crowd with 2OT Win
The Lady Raiders enjoyed their home conference opener on Friday at The Raider Dome as they welcomed Jackson Prep to campus. The JV Girls were trying to continue their perfect start in conference play and the start reflected that as they led 7-2 halfway through the first quarter. Prep closed the quarter on a 12-2 run to lead by five heading into the second quarter. JA responded to close the lead to just two for Prep at halftime. The third quarter was a sluggish offensive quarter for both teams as they combined for seven points and Prep held their one point lead heading into the final frame. JA was held scoreless until the last minute of play and scored on a single free throw as the Lady Patriots dealt the Lady Raiders their first conference loss 32-23 and fell to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. JA was led in scoring again by Mylee Maurer who finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
In varsity action the Lady Raiders were looking for their second straight win to start conference play. The two rivals traditionally play low scoring games but the start of the game was anything but that as they combined for 26 first quarter points with Prep leading 15-11. The Lady Patriots stretched their lead to 23-16 at halftime before JA got on the comeback trail. Aubrey Chambers hit a three at the buzzer to tie the game at 27-27 after three quarters. Both teams had multiple chances at the end of regulation to win the game but extra time was required. Eliza Hawkins hit a game-tying free throw with :20 seconds left to send the game to double overtime tied 42-42. JA started the second extra session on a 10-2 run and wound up winning going away 57-46. The Lady Raiders improved to 12-10 and 2-0 in conference play.
The Lady Raiders will continue conference play next Tuesday as they stay at The Raider Dome for game two of their three game homestead as they host MRA. JV Girls will start at 4:00pm with varsity action scheduled for 6:30pm.
