JV Wins in OT, Varsity Falls


Coming off their first conference loss, the JV Lady Raiders were back inside The Raider Dome on Wednesday, as they faced off against Madison-Ridgeland Academy. The JV Girls were trying to recover from their first conference loss. JA fell behind early 8-3 after the first quarter, but were able to respond with a 12-7 second quarter to tie the game at 15-15 at halftime. The Lady Raiders continued their run by pushing the lead to five heading into the final frame. The Lady Patriots rallied to tie the game and force overtime. JA hit their free throws down the stretch and survived a last second shot attempt to win 38-35 and improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play. JA was led in scoring by Mylee Maurer - 18 points and 4 rebounds along with Avery Buchanan who finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds.

In varsity action the Lady Raiders were attempting to stay unbeaten in conference play. MRA got off to a fast start as they scored the first seven points in less than two minutes. JA fought back with a 7-0 run only to see MRA finish off the quarter with another 7-0 run. JA found a way to get the game tied at 18-18, before the Lady Patriots closed out the half with another 7-0 run to lead 25-18 at the break. MRA pulled away in the second half as they outscored JA 31-17 in the second half to halt the Lady Raiders run in conference play as they fell to 12-11 and 2-1 in conference play.

The Lady Raiders will continue conference play Friday as they stay at The Raider Dome for the final game of their three game homestead as they host St. Joseph. JV Girls will start at 4:00pm with varsity action scheduled for 6:30pm.
