JA Snaps MRA Unbeaten Streak
The Raiders and Patriots had their game moved to Wednesday because of winter weather on Monday and Tuesday in the metro area. On the heels of a thrilling one point win over Prep, the JV Raiders locked up with MRA in another nail biter at The Raider Dome. The Raiders snagged an early one point first quarter lead before the Patriots came back to take a 15-12 lead at intermission. JA went on a 13-5 run to claim a 25-20 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Patriots scored the last five to tie it heading into the fourth quarter. Caden Moss scored on an old-fashioned three point play to put JA up with :03 seconds remaining. JA survived a three point shot at the buzzer to win their seventh straight game. In a game that featured five ties and seven lead changes JA improved to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. JA was led in scoring by Caden Moss who finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.Parker Douglas chipped in 7 points and 3 rebounds.
In varsity action the Raiders played in front of another packed out Raider Dome as the Raiders looked to be streak stoppers. JA was trying to snap an eight game regular season losing skid to MRA and halt their best start in school history at 24-0. The atmosphere was electric and so was the basketball as the two teams traded the lead 7 times and had 3 ties in just the first quarter. The Patriots led by as many as eight in the second quarter and carried a five point lead into the locker room. The Raiders scored the first seven after halftime and took a brief 34-32 lead before the Pats tied it back up. Then JA went on an impressive 19-8 run to close out the quarter and the Patriots. JA outscored MRA 16-5 in the fourth to finish off one of the most dominant wins of the season in a 69-47 decision which helped the Raiders move to 22-1 and 3-0 in conference play. Mason and Mike Williams combined to score 47 points on the night.
The Raiders will close out their three game homestead with another conference matchup against St. Joseph. JV Boys will start at 5:15pm with varsity action scheduled for 7:45pm.
