Raiders Win in OT

JA Defeats Prep 2-1 in Flowood

The Raiders were in Flowood on Monday night as they began their final push to the postseason. Coming off a 2-1 week the Raiders were in need of a win over their rival Prep to keep hope alive for a top two seed in the playoffs. The JV squads were up first and the Patriots carried a two goal lead into the halftime break. The Raiders were unable to get a goal past the Prep keeper and the Patriots took the decision with a 3-0 final dropping the Raiders to 6-4-1 and 3-3 against conference teams.

In Varsity action the Raiders found themselves in a early 1-0 hole in the 30th minute as Sam Sherman put home a rebound against JA. In the late stages of the second half JA found the equalizing goal from freshman Steven Hederman as his shot from 30 yards out deflected off a defender and into the goal to tie the game at 1-1. Senior Ben Jones picked up the assist. The game found its way into overtime and in the closing moments of the first ten minute half Jones sent in a corner kick that Zachary Elinski headed down and it found the foot of Nicholas Harris for the go ahead goal. JA was able to hold off every Prep advance as Jamison Graham stood tall in goal to preserve the 2-1 overtime win. JA is now 7-8 overall and 4-3 in 6A play. Next up is senior night on Thursday at The Brickyard as JA will host St. Joseph for the second time in less than a week. JV will start things off at 5:00pm followed by senior recognition and the Varsity kickoff at 6:30pm.
